Every scanner app on the store says it's free. The useful question is what the free tier actually includes — scans, price data, collection size — and no one publishes that in one place. This page does, with a source link for every claim.
For a one-off check with zero friction, PokeScope and CardGrader both scan free with no account. For free collection tracking, DittoDex describes itself as free and ad-free. The three ways "free" gets limited
- Scan caps. A daily or monthly limit is the most common gate, and the least documented — fine for curiosity, discovered the hard way the day you inherit a binder.
- Pricing depth. The scan is free and a number is free; the data behind the number — sold history, condition context, individual transactions — is where paywalls typically sit. A listing is an offer, not a value, and that applies to free tiers too.
- Collection limits. Free until your collection hits a card count, then your own data sits behind a subscription.
Picking by what you're actually doing
